Ski area official describes the science behind the snow

In his office, Doug Allen keeps a photo that shows Mount Werner covered in several feet of powder after a weekend-long dumping of snow. The picture was taken the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2001 - the only other time in Allen's 21 years with Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. that Steamboat Ski Area missed its opening day.

Steamboat briefs for Nov. 17

Routt County United Way and Wells Fargo Bank are sponsoring the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner from 1 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 22, at Holy Name Catholic Church at 524 Oak Street. All are welcome. The sponsors are in need of prepared food donations including turkeys, mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry salads and desserts.
