Off-leash dog hours begin Friday

— At the request of the Responsible Dog Ownership Group of Steamboat Springs, the city has agreed to institute a trial off-leash program for dogs in city parks. The trial program begins Friday. Off-leash times and locations include Spring Creek Park, on Wednesdays from 12 to 2 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and Rita Valentine Park, on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Dog owners wishing to take advantage of new off-leash recreation areas must attend a certification program at the city's Parks, Open Space and Recreation Services Office on Howelsen Parkway. The program includes a video defining voice and sight control, and agreement with a "Manners in Off-Leash Areas" document.

The certification program is offered Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 4:30 p.m.
