Committee to hold Holiday Window Dressing contest

The Economic Restructuring Committee of Mainstreet Steamboat Springs is having a Holiday Window Dressing Contest on Nov. 23. Windows will be judged twice: once during the day and once in the evening (think lights). Cash prizes will be awarded. Register with Tracy Barnett at 846-1800.

Transportation to medical centers available for vets

Transportation to the Grand Junction and Denver VA medical centers is available for veterans who are unable to drive and who have an appointment Monday through Friday at either hospital. This service is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the Veterans Affairs Officer of Routt County at 879-5489 or e-mail mcondie@co.routt.co.us to arrange transportation.

Veterans are encouraged to take advantage of the medical services available to them through the VA. Entering the VA medical system requires a copy of your DD 214 and about 20 minutes to fill out a form with the VA officer. The Routt County office is in the Workforce Center in the Sundance at Fish Creek shopping center. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Medical center seeking volunteers

Yampa Valley Medical Center is seeking volunteers for its Community Health Resource Center. The free lending library is available to physicians, hospital employees and community members and provides resources on a variety of medical topics. Steamboat Art Museum needs volunteers

The Steamboat Art Museum needs volunteers to work two- or three-hour shifts between noon and 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays. All volunteers will be trained. Call Nancy Westphale at 846-0504 or the museum at 870-1755 for more information.

Rummage shop Christmas sale going on now

The Phippsburg Rummage Shop's Christmas sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Thursday until Dec. 20. The sale includes dishes, collectibles, gift items, toys, decorations and Christmas clothes. The Rummage Shop is operated by the Phippsburg Community Club, a nonprofit organization.

Free ESL classes offered at CMC

Free English as a Second Language/Ingles como Segundo Idioma classes are offered at Colorado Mountain College. Classes for beginning through advanced student meet at 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Beginners also can attend a class at 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Advanced students can join a 9 a.m. class Wednesdays. All classes meet in Willett Hall, room 303. Male singer needed at Emerald City Opera

Emerald City Opera is seeking a male singer to perform in its Touring Opera Troupe at area schools. The Touring Troupe is part of ECO's Education & Community Outreach program fostering learning about opera and the vocal performing arts and introducing children of all ages to the world of opera and music.
