Military donations sought for troops overseas
Steamboat Springs The Yampa Valley Community Foundation's "Support The Troops" program is requesting the names and addresses of military members serving in Afghanistan or Iraq. If you would like someone you know serving there to receive a holiday care package, e-mail the information to marci@steamboatrealestate.com. Waak coming to conduct workshop in Steamboat
Pat Waak, Colorado Democratic Party Chair, will conduct a caucus workshop at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at Olympian Hall at Howelsen Hill. This is a great opportunity to prepare for the caucuses, coming up Feb. 5. The event includes a potluck lunch, an overview of the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver and caucus training about the nuts and bolts of the first step in the electoral process. Steamboat Rotary clubs offer Finland study trips
The Steamboat Springs and Ski Town Rotary Clubs are inviting young professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 to apply for the Rotary Group Study Exchange program, which will take place in Finland from April 10 through May 15.
Candidates from Northern Colorado, Eastern Idaho, Wyoming and Western Nebraska are eligible to participate in the Finland exchange, Steamboat Rotary Club presidents Sandy Evans Hall and Evlyn Berge said.
The Group Study Exchange program is a unique opportunity designed to develop professional and leadership skills among young adults to better prepare them to address the needs of their communities in an ever-increasing global workplace. Team members will spend a month or more visiting the host country and living with local Rotary families.
The Rotary Foundation pays for most of the team member's expenses, including transportation and meals, with team members expected to pay only for their personal incidental expenses. Applications are due Friday. Interviews will be conducted Nov. 17 in Casper, Wyo. and Nov. 18 in Fort Collins.

Medical Center seeking volunteers for ski season
Yampa Valley Medical Center is seeking volunteers in a variety of capacities during the upcoming ski season. Call Volunteer Coordinator Mindy Fontaine at 870-1146 for more information. Volunteers must be willing to make a six-month commitment.
USDA distributing quarterly commodities
USDA commodities are being distributed for the fourth quarter of 2007 at LIFT-UP of Routt County offices in Steamboat Springs, Hayden and Oak Creek, through the Emergency Food Assistance Program. Eligible households may receive Assistance Program foods once a quarter. This quarterly distribution ends Dec. 31. Food will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Call 870-8804 between 1 and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to ask about income-eligibility and hours of operation for each office.
