Patricia Creekmore: Great experience

My friends and husband told me to go for it, but I was dubious. I always have opinions, but will my opinions be informed enough? Have I lived here long enough to be credible (five years and counting)? In short, can I run with the big dogs?

I am referring to serving as one of the community representatives on the Editorial Board of the Steamboat Pilot & Today. On April 30, I completed my four-month term.

What an experience! I am wholly delighted! I learned so much and I feel so much better connected to my community. Whether or not I contributed is not up to me to decide, but I now believe one's contribution has a direct correlation to one's enthusiasm. Bryna, Scott, Tom and Brent are completely genuine in their desire for input from the community representatives. Ann Ross, my co-community representative, and I took every opportunity to voice our opinions, concerns and questions. Not that team members always agreed - we didn't, but we all listened to other perspectives. The team was a team in every sense.

Thanks to Bryna, Scott, Tom and Brent for this opportunity. It was just great. In our last meeting, they thanked me for my service, but the gratitude runs both ways - what an exciting, enlightening and interesting four months. When may I re-up?
