Teen arrested after driving wrong way, hitting fence
A 15-year-old Steamboat Springs boy was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and eluding after he reportedly hit a fence and tried to run from police Tuesday night.
Police Capt. Joel Rae said the teen was driving a 1993 maroon Ford Explorer when he hit a fence in the first block of Butcherknife Alley and left the scene of the accident.
Officers attempted to contact the teen after they saw him driving the wrong way down Sharp Street, which is a one-way street.
The teen then abandoned his vehicle near Fourth and Maple streets and hid behind a shed, where officers contacted him after "hearing the sound of breaking tree branches."
The teen was cited and released to his parents, Rae said.
The teen was not injured, and the fence sustained minor damages, he said.

Hayden live-work units approved by Commission
The Hayden Planning Commission last week approved plans for two buildings containing live-work units. The approval is the final step before building permits are issued.
The two-story units would include office or workshop space on the lower level and a two-bedroom, one-bathroom unit on the upper level. The unit also would include a small kitchen, dining area and a living area.
Valley View Industrial Park developers Paul Franklin and Jon Peddie plan to build the 12 units in two buildings on lots 7 and 8. Valley View is at the southwest corner of Routt County Road 37 and Crandall Avenue, south of U.S. Highway 40 and the Hayden Cemetery. It includes 51 lots.
The units start at $289,000 for 2,350 square feet of space and are being sold through Hayden's Prudential Steamboat Realty office.
Franklin said five of the first six units are under contract.
