Lowell Whiteman announces honors list

The Lowell Whiteman Primary School announced its second trimester Honors List and High Honors List this month. Students in sixth through eighth grades with grades of 85 or above in all classes have earned honors. Students in sixth through eighth grades with grades of 90 or above in all classes earned high honors.

The students named to the High Honors List are Taylor Gold, Madison Keeffe, David Lea, Jonathan Milne and Alex Rudolph.

Students named to the Honor Roll are Brady Bender, Ciar Colgan, Elizabeth Finch and Hunter McLean.

Carmack named Rotary Student of the Month

Steamboat Springs High School senior A.J. Carmack was named Rotary Student of the Month at the March 20 meeting of the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club. Carmack is the son of Eric and Michelle Jones of Steamboat Springs.

Carmack is an active member of National Honor Society, fundraises for school teams and organizes care packages for soldiers in Iraq. Carmack also is on the school's wrestling and lacrosse teams. After graduation, Carmack will fulfill his lifelong dream of a career in the United States Army. He reports to Fort Benning, Ga., in June with hopes of becoming a Ranger in the Army Special Forces.

Two SSHS alumni named to dean's list

Two former Steamboat Springs students made the academic Dean's List at Azusa Pacific University, a Christian, evangelical college located north of Los Angeles. Laura Heiner and Samuel Johnson are recognized for having a grade point average of 3.5 or better during the fall 2006 semester.
