Bud Durnil: Save open space

Steamboat Springs is witnessing a residential and commercial building boom and a loss of open ground; therefore, I think it would behoove the city leaders to give extra thought to the preservation of open spaces.
Examples of this are Central Park in New York City and Grant Park in Chicago to name two of a multitude demonstrating this thought. These are commercially valuable land areas that foresighted city fathers preserved as open spaces for future generations.
Rita Valentine Park and the adjoining M & H property located just south of old town off U.S. Highway 40 at Hilltop Parkway are the last of the large open space areas remaining in the city.
Please, lets not be short-sighted and lose this green open space to a recreation center, or any other type of building and its adjoining asphalt parking lot. I believe future generations will look back and thank us and our city leaders for this foresight.
