— Two local swimmers qualified for the state swimming meet in several disciplines Saturday at the Patriot Invite at Denver University.

Kyle Steitz and Cole Worsley - both Steamboat Springs High School students who compete for Moffat County - posted personal bests in their events.

Worsley, a sophomore, had an impressive day, finishing first in the 50 meter freestyle and second in the 100 meter freestyle.

"That's a pretty big thing," Moffat County coach Patti Worsley said, noting that the Bulldogs were competing against some of the top schools in the state. "I think that for this time in season to have the times these boys are doing is great."

Worsley has qualifed in the 50, 100 and 200 meter freestyles and the 100 meter fly.

Steitz, a junior, finished 14th in the 100 meter backstroke and 13th in the 200 meter freestyle.

Steitz and Worsley also were part of the medley relay team that qualified for state. The two have also qualified for state in the 4x100 freestyle relay.

"It's quite an accomplishment for them," Patti Worsley said. "They've improved a lot and it's nice to see them doing that well."

The Bulldogs finished 11th out of 16 teams at the meet

Hayden wrestlers second at Rangely

The Hayden Middle School wrestling team finished second at the Rangely Dual Team Tournament on Saturday, finishing just points behind the host school.

Head coach Dallas Robinson said he was happy with the results especially considering he was without several of his top wrestlers and most of the team was battling some kind of sickness.

T-Lane Mazzola, Nick Williams and Mark Doolin were all absent from the meet so they could wrestle at the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Denver.

"Our practice room has been plagued with illness and injury for the past few weeks, but I think we are over the worst of it," Robinson said. "If we can get the kids healthy, they can really show their stuff."

Treyben Letlow continued to wrestle well, earning first place at 155 pounds. Letlow has yet to lose this year. Austin Cless and Ty Dunckley also took home first place finishes.

Will Valora, Dakota Zehner, Chris Skof and Lane Moon all contributed points to the team score.

Steamboat's Aaron Higgins, Nick Rossman and Thomas Tutthill also competed at the meet.

"One of the most encouraging things we saw at this meet was that the kids are really starting to gain some confidence," Robinson said. "They're also starting to use some of the more advanced moves."
