Steamboat Springs The Steamboat Springs City Council delayed any decisions on the Steamboat Springs Community Center Tuesday night. The council is concerned because bids for the center came in more than $1 million over budget. The lowest bid was $4.087 million.
Hayden's efforts to expand its vocational education program got good news Tuesday when the Routt County Energy Impact Committee made the building expansion its top priority. The Hayden School District is seeking a $500,000 grant for the Babson-Carpenter Career and Technical Education Center. Nearly $500,000 in private funding already has been raised.
Jonathan Godes is the new executive director of Grand Futures Prevention Coalition. Godes replaces Sandy Visnack who resigned last month. Godes comes to Grand Futures from the Craig Boys and Girls Club where he was executive director. Grand Futures is a nonprofit substance abuse awareness and prevention organization that serves Routt, Moffat and Grand counties.
Steamboat Springs School District parents will be surveyed this week about the district's school calendar. Surveys will be given to parents during parent-teacher conferences on Thursday and Friday. Parents will be asked about three options for the 2007-08 school year.
The Steamboat Dance Theatre's 35th annual dance concert is Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The performances are at 7:30 p.m. each night and tickets range from $8 to $18. For more area events, check out Happenings at steamboatpilot.com.
In Sports, The Steamboat Springs girls lacrosse team is looking forward to a strong season. The team has multiple senior leaders and some 30 freshmen have come out for the program. The team opens its season Friday at Pine Creek. For more on the girls, read Dave Shively's story in Steamboat Today.
The boys lacrosse team will open its season at 4:30 p.m. Friday. The Sailors will host Columbine. The artificial turf field has been cleared of snow and is ready for use.
Here is your first look at weather. The temperature at 6 a.m. was 22 degrees under clear skies. We're looking at a high today of 44 under mostly sunny skies. Temperatures tonight should get down to 22 degrees and we'll be back up into the low 40s Thursday with a chance of rain or snow.
