Midget team takes second


— The Steamboat Springs Midget hockey team finished second in the Rocky Mountain Youth Hockey League tournament in Craig during the weekend.

The Midget team finished the tournament with a 2-2 record.

After losing, 3-1, to Craig in their first game, the Midgets responded with an emphatic 9-4 win against Oak Creek.

Clayton Patrick scored four goals, Lee Wren scored two, and Alex Palaniuk, Austin Fedewa and Austin Anderson each scored one for Steamboat.

In their third game of the weekend - a rematch with Craig to see who would advance to the championship game - Steamboat won, 5-2, behind two goals from Gus Worden and goals from Anderson, Jimmy Whelihan and Palaniuk.

Playing against the Gunnison Blades in the championship game, Steamboat fell behind, 3-0, after two periods before eventually losing, 5-2.

Patrick scored both Steamboat goals, with assists coming from Anderson.
