Houston is out and Salt Lake is in this summer at Yampa Valley Regional Airport.

Beginning June 8, Delta Air Lines will offer two jet flights per day between Salt Lake City and the airport in Hayden. The flights will continue through Labor Day weekend.

Janet Fischer, airline program director for the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., said the Continental Airlines flight between Houston and YVRA that operated each of the past three summers will not be in place this summer.

"Just as Delta's winter service has provided convenient access to Steamboat for our winter guests, these two summer flights continue to provide the same nonstop jet service with easy one-stop connections nationwide," said Andy Wirth, vice president of sales and marketing for Ski Corp. "With the combined power of flights via Delta's Salt Lake City hub, vacationers will have access to daily flight options from more than 85 destinations nationwide."

The Delta flights will be operated by SkyWest. The flights will be on 50-passenger Comair regional jets.

The first daily flight will depart Salt Lake City at 11:15 a.m. and arrive at YVRA at 12:18 p.m. The jet then will depart YVRA at 1:12 p.m. and arrive at Salt Lake City at 2:15 p.m. That flight will operate from June 8 through Aug. 26

The evening

flight, which operates from June 8 through Sept. 3, departs Salt Lake City at 9:15 p.m. and arrives at YVRA at 10:05 p.m. The jet will depart YVRA at 8:15 a.m. the next day, landing in Salt Lake City by 9:10 a.m.

The early arrival to Salt Lake City will should open travel to lots of connecting destinations, Wirth said.

Delta Air Lines offers service to 291 destinations in 46 countries.

Steve Dawes, chairman of the Local Marketing District, which funds the summer air program, said the increased cost of the Continental flight compared with the final cost of two Delta flights, helped the LMD make the decision to switch airlines.

By financing summer service, the LMD guarantees Delta will break even or generate a negotiated amount of revenue.

"We added a Delta flight from Atlanta in the wintertime, and that's gone extremely well," Dawes said. "It seems like expanding the Delta relationship is good business."

Dawes added that he knows people in Houston will be upset by the decision.

The new Delta nonstop flights will be available for booking starting Saturday.

United flights from YVRA to Denver will continue in the summer.

"United is a very important part of the summer program," Dawes said.
