Sheriff's Office assists with go-cart arrest

— Routt County Sheriff's Office deputies helped Westminster police arrest a 31-year-old man accused of leaving the scene of an accident in Denver while the man was camping in Steamboat Lake State Park on Friday.

Sgt. Seth Merrick said Sean Christopher Daniels of Westminster was arrested about 2 a.m. Friday while he was sleeping at a campsite in Steamboat Lake State Park, north of Steamboat Springs.

Daniels was arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death in connection with an incident that killed 8-year-old Quinton Von Duyke while he was riding in a motorized go-cart in Westminster on June 23.

Merrick said Westminster Police Department detectives called the Sheriff's Office on Thursday with information Daniels was in Routt County.

"Technically, we made the arrest, but we handed (Daniels) over to their police department," he said.

Daniels was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on Friday, and was not processed through the Routt County Jail, Merrick said.

Daniels was compliant, he said.

"There was a chance he had a weapon so we took extra precautions, but we caught him so off guard that there wasn't anything he was going to do," he said.

Two Steamboat Lake State Park rangers also assisted in the arrest.
