Steamboat gymnasts post solid results

Steamboat Springs youth gymnasts may not have been represented in much quantity at a recent state meet in Castle Rock, but they certainly delivered quality results. Excel Gymnastics of Steamboat owner and coach Mike Smith qualified seven Steamboat girls for the EAGLES State Gymnastics competition held June 23 at Castle View High School. Unfortunately, due to summer schedules, Smith could only take three.

Census: Population declining

Steamboat Springs is shrinking, the U.S. Census Bureau believes. In estimates released this week, the bureau estimated Steamboat's population on July 1, 2006 was 9,315, down 14 from the July 1, 2005 estimate. It was the third consecutive year and the sixth in the past seven that the bureau estimated a population decline for Steamboat.
