Steamboat West charged with DUI

Steamboat Springs Steamboat Springs police arrested Daniel Mulcahy early Sunday morning on misdemeanor charges of speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol. Mulcahy, 36, is the project manager for Steamboat West, a potential large-scale development on at least 540 acres west of downtown Steamboat Springs.
The arrest occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 40 near Walton Creek Road. Mulcahy said police pulled him over for driving 58 mph in a 45 mph zone. Mulcahy said that although he "drank water for 2 1/2 hours before driving" and was cooperative with officers, a Breathalyzer test showed a blood-alcohol level of 0.089. Colorado's legal limit for driving is 0.08.
"I should have walked, but at the end of the day, I didn't," Mulcahy said. "I'm completely embarrassed and ashamed about it."
In March, Mulcahy and other partners in Steamboat 700, LLC, purchased the 540-acre property owned by Steve and Mary Brown for $24.6 million. The group also is under contract to purchase 160 adjoining acres.

Why is Dan Mulcahy getting busted for drinking and driving newsworthy? I'm not saying that he didn't do anything wrong. He'll already get his name in Sunday jail report. Give the guy a break!

Scott has heard it often for not covering the news. This arrest is news. That is why it is in the news.

I have to say I was a bit surprised at this piece of "news". There have been other noteworthy locals in the police blotter but their story didn't generate more than a line in the blotter. I was wondering why the paper chose to be so detailed about this arrest. It seemed he was being picked out for some reason. I agree with sturn on this one. Seems he was being tared and feathered and set up for public humiliation.

Danny, no worries, get an attny, plea to a lesser charge, pay your fine, a tough lesson, but a lesson no less. Do what you can to help keep the youngsters in the area away from alcohol, and there will be some good to come from your slip up, you are now a credible role model.
Good luck at all you do...............
