Hayden alumni reunite today

— For the first time, the alumni of the old Hayden Union High School and Hayden High School will hold a reunion together for all classes up to 1979.

The event, which is starts at noon today and runs through the evening at the Routt County Fairgrounds Pavilion, is open to the public. Karen Gilroy, event organizer and 1977 graduate of Hayden High School, said a catered dinner will be served at noon, there will be snacks throughout the afternoon and evening and there will be some door prizes.

Gilroy said that in the past, Hayden Union alumni had a reunion for all classes every year, while Hayden High School alumni met only every decade. Hayden Union High School closed in 1959. Gilroy said Hayden Union alumni have been hoping for some time to have alumni from the new high school join their reunion.

"It's my thirtieth reunion," Gilroy said. "I graduated in '77, and we decided to invite all the '70s. And we decided we sure didn't want to leave out the '60s, and it just got really big."

Gilroy said a similar reunion is planned next year that will probably also include alumni from the 1980s, who are "feeling left out."

"This is the first year we've combined with Hayden Union High School," Gilroy said. "We don't have too many spectacular events planned. I think it will be even better next year."

The cost to attend the reunion is $20 for Hayden alumni. For more information, call Gilroy at 276-3819.
