IS VICTUM REFUSAL TO PROSECUTE A VIABLE EXCUSE TO NOT TO NOT INFORCE THE LAW???????

Yes, Someone will have to die and some already have. This is not a new story in Oak Creek and someday it might change?

The bar owner mayor was in on her promotion from dog catcher to chief of police, why wouldn't she ignore fights at his bar? Haven't you noticed, there is no law enforcement in oc when it comes to drunks and druggies, and very little for other offenses, better give the "do nothing chief" another raise, looks like she's earning it.

why question: in response to your question as to enforcing the law. Unless there is a witness to a crime, then how do you propose law enforcement gain evidence?

What I mean to say is that if the victim does not want to cooperate with the law in order to provide positive identification, then how do you propose the law seek and find a criminal without witnesses?

One of the most annoying calls that 911 gets in Steamboat is how so and so is driving erratically, or so and so did not pick up their dog's poo, or so and so made an obscene gesture from their vehicle, yet when dispatch asks whether or not the caller wants contact, they say no and just were calling it (the crime) in. Unless law enforcement catches a vehicle driving erratically, there is no other choice but to let it drop.

Maybe people will remember that when they call 911 for any variety of idiotic calls, but wish to remain nameless.

dundalk.... I think a lot of the DUI calls are just taking the place of giving someone the finger (which constitutes road rage now). If you don't like someones driving, call the cops... that'll teach 'em. Some people shouldn't be allowed to have cell phones. Then you get the calls about teens carrying a white something, deer in someones yard, and teens that MIGHT be too dumb to get out of the way of an 18 wheeler... some people are too nosy for their own good, some are just vindictive, and some just need to get a life! They should start giving out tickets for frivolous calls... they could use that money for affordable housing, free homes for everyone.

man i must be out of touch....jq, when did the owner of the elks become the mayor?

know: Are you calling the dispatch just to hear your call announced on the radio? Call David Hill, the new Routt County Communications director and inquire as to whether or not you can get a tour.

There are hundreds of calls which never get printed in the record. For whatever call you may have made, there a 10 just like 'em. If you don't mind me asking - what have you called 911 for? Have you left your name and number asking for contact? Some people are just busy bodies.

There should be a law with stiff fines for people who call 911 or dispatch because there is a bear in the yard, or an elk on Hwy 40, or because a neighbor is playing ted Nugent a little too loud in the middle of the afternoon. There should be guidelines for people who waste 911's time with calls that have no business being reported.

In major metro areas, calls which are frivilous are not answered and often times such repeat offenders are cited for tying 911 up.

this was a human being injured in a fight behind the colorado bar, law enforcement takes an oath in oc to protect the citizens these perps are still at large!!!!!!! when will people in oc stop making excuses for lack of enforcement of laws??????does anybody remember brady flowers losing his eye in a fight, or the guy that had his leg broken, or the fight where a perp went to prison?????? why can't oc be a lawabiding town?????

question: maybe the good folks in oak creek should rally together and DEMAND that the sheriff provide oak creek with more police presence. he should be able to do that. oh, that's right, he's not certified.

JQPUBLIC 5 years, 11 months ago

aristocat... my apologies (this incident), I assumed whyquestion knew what he/she was talking about with "behind colorado bar", I also know better than to assume. I don't think shirl wants anything to do with politics.

JQPUBLIC 5 years, 11 months ago

muskno... oak creek once had good law enforcement (and money to pay them) until the drunks and druggies lied enough to get what they wanted...an elected government that helped the town revert back to the 70's. The good people of oc better get off their apathetic duffs if they want oc to be a decent town that attracts families, not just dealers, recent parolees and hippie wannabes. Is it apathy or stupidity when you allow an elected official to run your town into the ground while helping someone like wall get elected to the sheriff's office?

0

bluntman 5 years, 11 months ago

JQ; to which elected official do you refer? my obsevations indicate that things have changed substantially in OC in the recent past, especially as it pertains to our elected officials. your assertion as to the type of people attracted to the Community relies all too heavily on the tired, old stereotypes and is way off the mark. i would suggest that you get off your duff to participate and take a bit of time getting to know the new OC as well.

step away from the keyboard and leave your prejudices behind. what you find may surprise you.

whyquestion 5 years, 11 months ago

why does the oc chief/dog catcher request citizen call her on her cell phone ? because she doesn't want dispatch to KNOW what is really going on in the ditch?????hide what you can, it will catch up with you, like the teenager trying to stab her mothers boyfriend,WOODY finaly got the case to Mental Health!!!!!!

know:

You are doing a disservice to your fellow neighbors in oak creek. The only way you will see change is if there is a solid record of misappropriation with regards to law enforcement. Correct me if I am wrong, but Oak Creek is within Routt County, thus you must rely upon the Sheriff to provide you with safety. I know all about the 1090 number and when I say "911" that's what I mean...

My dad used to get worked up about hot rodders. After phoning the LAPD, and not having very much response, he started calling the local city council members, and then went up the ladder. As long as I can remember, the police are not animal control officers. You need to be speaking with your local law person; I don't know her name. SHe is the local representative there in Oak Creek.

WHen you report "drunk drivers" to dispatch (which the proper way to go) do you report the crime and ask for them to contact you? Or do you call and then tell disptach you do not want to be contacted?

I think it is rather abrasive to contact law enforcment on their cell phones. Most of the cops I know don't give out their numbers because they'd be bombarded with calls.

Go through the proper channels, always ask to be contacted, thus you are a witness to a crime that can be addressed as such. If you live in Oak Creek, then part of Gary Wall's serenade to get voters in Oak Creek was that he was going to ensure proper law presence. So far, he's getting an "F" in that subject.

BTW_ I never called "you" an idiot.

Bluntman makes some good points. Change is happening as we speak and if anyone has been paying attention since the ex-mayor who quit, quit it has not been business as usual and from what has happened since then indications are this town Board means business. It is my understanding that at the last municipal court almost $1200 in fines were levied out mostly for irresponsible pet owners who the judge has no mercy for whatsoever. They deserve everything they get. It is also my understanding a number of cars have been red tagged and moved which is long overdue. Numerous code violation letters have been sent to property owners including a city council member to do what ever to rectify the issue and in most cases I think it has been done. Word on the street is that if you're going to live the lowlife in Oak Creek it's gonna to cost you plenty and that's fine by me too.

Word is also that situations in respect to the fight from which this thread originated will not be tolerated much longer. When situations like this occur someone needs to go to the slammer or any and all involved receive the appropriate tickets for living the lowlife, a situation that I personally am getting extremely tired of hearing about when there are no penalties. I want changes such as this because if crap like this is tolerated it reflects much too negatively on those who are not living the lowlife. It appears change is happening and if what I hear is correct, and I think it is, it will continue to happen. I say go for it I am just sick and tired of hearing stories like this over and over. Time for it to stop.

blunt & musk..... I refer to the one that spent all of the town's money (stated as ran the town into the ground) and had her head stuck so far up wall's...uh...campaign, an ex-mayor. J was appointed not elected (as mayor) so only time will tell as to whether politics in oc has changed. We'll see how serious this board is when the so called "chief" leaves. Using the cell phones in oc started back in 02 when the new mayor wanted to bypass dispatch and whitewash the barfights, dui's, and juvenile problems that she said didn't exist. Oh well, all water under the bridge and things HAVE changed in the RECENT past, and some things are looking up.... as for "the type of people attracted to the Community"....again, apathy or stupidity... we'll know after the next town election!

1:15 a.m. A business was cited in the 600 block of Lincoln Avenue for violating the city's liquor codes.

1:13 a.m. An 18-year-old Steamboat Springs man was arrested on U.S Highway 40 near Rabbit Ears Pass on suspicion of driving while ability impaired

Are these related and why is everyone more concerned about the drunks fighting in OC than an 18 yr old driving drunk and/or drugged at 1 AM any where near Rabbit Ears?

0

vic 5 years, 11 months ago

Geez - didn't even hear about that one. I did notice in the June 5th Record, 4 MIP's given at 1 AM, then later that night teens reported drinking on the ball fields. Graduation rites of passage I guess.

dundalk 5 years, 11 months ago

Send all the criminals to stay at a Hilton Hotel, or better yet, since Paris Hilton is under house arrest because she has alleged psyche problems, all the drunks can go to her house and have a punch and judy fest, complete with caviar, dom by the snifter, and creme brulee.

The people concerned with Schlitz can stop by for a visit, have a large bar glass of beer plus a "Big Boy" burger for good measure.

0

Matthew Stoddard 5 years, 11 months ago

Schlitz...take out the "L" and you get the real taste of it.

I still don't understand "the grip" on the Big Boy. From the pics I see, there is no grip. He's holding up a plate with a burger on it; not gripping it.
