Early Learning Center moves forward

South Routt students could be using new building by 2008

— South Routt's early learners could be in a new building in Yampa by the start of the 2008 school year.

South Routt Superintendent Kelly Reed confirmed Wed-

nesday that the sale of the current center in Oak Creek was successful, a key part in moving the new Early Leaning Center forward.

"We wanted to make sure that went through before the ball really got rolling," he said.

As a result of the closing, Jan Kaminski of Mountain Architecture Design Group P.C. will put out a bid on the new building that is slated to cost about $700,000.

The new Early Learning Center will be built near South Routt Elementary School in Yampa.

"Obviously, we're very excited to get the process started with bidding, which will further the entire project," Reed said.

Reed said if things fall in place during the summer, construction could begin by late August or early September.

"We're hoping that construction will continue into the fall and winter to be ready for the 2008-2009 school year," he said.

Plans for the new Early Learning Center began more than two years ago. The new facility will include 2,500 square feet of space with two classrooms, staff offices, a family room and several covered porches.

how did the school get control of the building?..it was a non-profit organization that could not get soroco support in the past when the building was bought, but now they reap the proceeds from the sale? the school did not help with the remodel. how is it their building now.
