— Lowell Whiteman School seniors graduating this year are golden in more way than one.

The 16 students graduating from the private preparatory school are the school's 50th class.

Although the school's big golden anniversary celebration isn't until the weekend of June 8, graduation will set the stage for the school's "Then and Now" festivities.

Jack Klobetanz, director of public relations for the school, said the Saturday graduation will feature a special address from a former graduate.

"Sandra Gardner, one of the school's former alums from 1981 and a current judge in Moffat County, will be providing the commencement address," he said.

During the ceremony, graduating seniors and students in other grades will be presented with a series of student awards which include foreign travel, competitive skiing and snowboarding and a dean's award. Members of the faculty also will be presented with awards, he said.

"These awards aren't necessarily given to students at the top of their class, but to students who have demonstrated excellence along the way," Klobetanz said.

The ceremony, which is expected to last about two hours, is followed by a lunch in the Lowell Whiteman Memorial Garden.

"We're looking forward to a great day," he said.
