Diving camp offered

— Last summer, Northwest Colorado diving coach Dave Fix found Genna Bradley at one of his camps.

Bradley, who had never been a diver before attending the camp, went on to win a regional high school meet and was the only freshman to qualify for the state meet.

With Bradley's success and hopes of further building the team, Fix will offer the first ever diving camp for athletes of Steamboat starting June 14.

Bradley had been in Craig when she met Fix. She now attends Steamboat Springs High School.

"It's absolutely for everyone," Fix said. "There are two requirements. If you want to be a diver, you have to be willing to go in head first off the board. And No. 2, you can't plug your nose. Other than that, you're good to go."

While the camp takes place at the Craig Swimming Pool, Fix said he's hoping to see an influx of Steamboat athletes take part.

Fix will hold three sessions with the first one beginning on June 14. The sessions will last for three weeks and take place Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. There may also be some work in Steamboat on the trampolines at the freestyle complex at Bald Eagle Lake.

The other two sessions don't have a set date, but Fix said all three sessions will be limited to 10 participants per session. The session is also only for participants in grades seven and up.

"There's no experience necessary," Fix said. "You can be a total novice. We teach you everything from beginning basics, such as the approach, to as many dives as you can progress through."

For more information, call Fix at 846-2039 or 276-1224, or to register for a session, call Craig Parks & Recreation at 824-8151.
