Unlocked cars hit in crime spree
Thousands of dollars in electronic equipment was reported stolen from at least a dozen unlocked cars in Steamboat Springs on Saturday and Sunday nights.
Steamboat Springs police Sgt. Nick Bosick said police took reports that cars on Lincoln Avenue, Cornice Drive, Anglers Drive, Mount Werner Circle, Pine Grove Road and Storm Meadows Drive were broken into the course of several hours Saturday night. One theft was reported Sunday night. None of the cars were broken into because all of the cars were left unlocked, he said.
Computers, DVD players and CDs were taken out of some of the cars, Bosick said.
"It easily could have been about $2,000 to $5,000 worth of property," he said.
Police had not made any arrests as of Monday but were confident they would be able to solve the case.
"We have surveillance video from one of the properties that will hopefully help us resolve this quickly," he said.
Krispy Kreme doughnuts for sale at middle school
Hayden Middle School students will sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts to help raise money for their trip to the 2007 People to People World Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. The students will sell doughnuts Thursday through Saturday in the Hayden Middle School parking lot, Hayden Town Hall and the baseball fields at Hayden Valley Elementary School.
