Steamboat Springs Andy Wirth, vice president of sales and marketing for Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp., has been named executive vice president of sales and marketing and chief marketing officer of Intrawest. Intrawest acquired Ski Corp. in March from now defunct American Skiing Co.
In his new position, Wirth said he will coordinate "virtually all aspects of brand marketing" for Vancouver, Canada-based Intrawest, which has interests in 11 North American mountain resorts. While his job has changed, his offices will not. Wirth will remain in Steamboat Springs.
Wirth said he is very thankful to be staying "at home" in Steamboat. He said relocation to Vancouver was discussed, but that staying in Steamboat will allow him to "stay close to the customer" and keep the corporate entity connected not only to the resort in Steamboat, but also to Copper Mountain and Winter Park, Intrawest's other Colorado resorts.
"We've been working on aspects of today's announcement for quite some time," Wirth said Monday. "I'm thrilled. How could a fellow ask for more?"
Wirth will be responsible for all aspects of Intrawest's global sales and marketing and will report directly to Alex Wasilov, Intrawest's president and chief operating officer.
"Andy is a proven industry veteran with a track record of setting business strategy and building the brand value and customer programs that have defined Steamboat's iconic brand," Wasilov said in a Monday news release. "We are extremely pleased to add an executive of Andy's caliber to the senior leadership team at Intrawest."
Wirth will remain in charge of sales and marketing for the Steamboat Ski Area and will continue to coordinate airline services to Yampa Valley Regional Airport in Hayden, in addition to air programs for other Intrawest resorts. Wirth said there would be no changes in Steamboat's sales and marketing team in the short or mid-term.
