Topping the news this morning, Ron Schlotthauer will watch with great anticipation in late March when Lufthansa begins direct airline service between Denver International Airport and Munich, Germany. But all the while, he'll be envisioning non-stop service to Tokyo.

Either flight may someday deliver international skiers to resort towns like Steamboat.

Schlotthauer, director of air service development at DIA, will speak in Steamboat on Wednesday during the Eighth annual Airline Partners' Summit hosted by the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp.

Also on the program is Michael Berry, president of the National Ski Area Association.

The Steamboat Pilot & Today filed a lawsuit Monday accusing the Steamboat Springs School Board of violating the Open Meetings Law.

The newspaper is seeking access to audiotapes of a Jan. 8 secret session. The newspaper and its attorney, Chris Beall, requested the tapes, arguing that they are a public record because the School Board's secret session was illegal. The newspaper filed the lawsuit after the requests for the tapes were denied.

The suit centers around anonymous surveys filled out by district staff and teachers about the administrators. Superintendent Donna Howell had promised administrators that the survey results would be kept confidential, but the School Board members ordered her to release the results to them.

In sports, Penny Fletcher wishes her two sons would find some time to clean their rooms. But she's not too upset about what's keeping them busy especially considering the news Bryan and Taylor received during the past week.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Ski Team named Taylor, 16, one of its four Nordic combined athletes to compete at the Nordic Junior World Championships starting March 12 in Tarvisio, Italy.

On Monday word came that team officials named Bryan, 20, as one of five U.S. Nordic combined team athletes to compete at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships from Feb. 22 to March 4 in Sapporo, Japan.

Here is your first look at weather. It was 18 degrees at 8 a.m. with light snow. We're on our way to a high of 29 degrees.
