Susan Bunn an instant winner in lottery
Susan Bunn was shaking. As she raked her dime across a scratch-off lottery ticket she bought Wednesday, the ticket appeared to show she had won $500,000. But Bunn wanted to be sure so she drove back to Bear River Valley Co-op in Hayden where she works. She made Casey Rolando finish scratching the ticket.

It's not often that you can surprise a coach who's won a state championship, six league titles, seven Coach of the Year honors and led his teams to 14 state playoff appearances. But former Steamboat Springs High School football coach Mark Drake admits he was taken aback when he received the letter informing him of his pending induction into the Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The ceremony takes place March 24 in Denver.

Oak Creek's depleted administrative staff is requesting $8,800 in salary raises to compensate for increased duties and workload. The raises - which would total about $8,800 - for town clerk Karen Halterman and billing clerk Vivian Johnson will be addressed by the Town Board during its meeting at 7 p.m. today.

Ridge Road ruling upheld
City Council votes in favor of Bear Berry Cottage
City officials upheld a ruling in favor of a vacation home rental permit on Ridge Road after a lengthy hearing Wednesday night. In a quasi-judicial hearing that turned Centennial Hall into a crowded courtroom and caused homeowners and city staff to be sworn in and cross-examined by attorneys, the Steamboat Springs City Council denied two appeals of an October decision that supported the vacation home rental permit of Laurrelle Crawford, who manages a Ridge Road vacation home known as Bear Berry Cottage. Vacation home rentals are residential homes that are rented to short-term vacationers and sometimes used for private functions.

Molly Look is a gymnast who likes to tease her grandfathers and knows the most challenging parts of life can be cured with a cookie. "After she got stuck on that fence and scratched herself, in her little mind, she needed to get to Mima's for a Dora (the Explorer) Band-Aid and a cookie to make her feel better," Bob Printy, Molly's maternal grandfather, said Wednesday. "Mima" is her maternal grandmother, Bonnie Printy.
