Seedling tree program species selling out
Advertisement
Just a reminder! Tree species available through the Routt County Conservation District (RCCD) are beginning to sell out. And the last day to order is March 31.
Landowners with two or more acres are eligible to order trees for the purposes of planting a windbreak, visual screens, reforestation, Christmas tree plantings, erosion control, noise barriers and wildlife habitat improvements. The seedling tree program, offered by RCCD through the Colorado State Forest Service Nursery, enables farmers, ranchers, and rural landowners to obtain shrubs and trees at nominal cost.
Several of the seedling trees and shrubs still available as of late January include cotoneaster, caragana, chokecherry, serviceberry, native willow, golden willow, aspen, narrow leaf cottonwood, Colorado blue spruce, Engelmann Spruce, Rocky Mountain Juniper, and Douglas Fir. And many other species are available. Though supplies of some potted species have been exhausted, adequate numbers of most species still remain. Call the Colorado State Forest Service Nursery 'sold out' line at (970) 491-8278 before placing your order.
Trees are available in bare root stock at a cost of $31.00 per group of 50. They average 10 to 30 inches high for deciduous and 5 to 12 inches for conifer. Trees also are available in potted stock at a cost of $43.80 for 6 to 12 inches and 1 1/2 to 2 inch pots and $27.00 for 4 to 6 inches and 1 inch pots.
Order forms for the seedling tree program are available at the RCCD office at 1475 Pine Grove Rd Ste 201A in Steamboat Springs or call (970) 879-3225 x 3. RCCD will accept orders until March 31, 2007 at the RCCD office. Payment must include the order and a 3.9% sales tax must be added to the total. Seedlings will be available for pick-up at the RCCD parking lot May 8, 2007 between 12 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Seedlings must be picked up at this time and date.
