Revamping the rec center

Hot pools likely closed for reconstruction April to November

Soak in the Old Town Hot Springs while you can. The hot pools at the recreation center likely will be closed for reconstruction from April to November, Steamboat Springs Health and Recreation Association Director Pat Carney said Thursday. Reconstructing the hot pools to add more natural elements and two new waterslides is the first phase of a possible $8.5 million expansion of the recreation center.

A 3-year-old Routt County girl is in stable condition at Denver Children's Hospital this morning after being hospitalized with hypothermia. The girl was found early Wednesday morning in a snowbank wearing only a long-sleeved shirt in sub-zero temperatures. Molly Rhea Look has sensation in her arms, legs, fingers and toes, Routt County Sheriff's Office Investigator Ken Klinger said Thursday. However, Molly's prognosis still is uncertain, he said.

Sales tax revenues increase

November numbers up 6.74 percent from previous year

The city of Steamboat Springs saw another increase in sales tax revenues for the month of November. The city released November numbers Thursday. Citywide November sales tax revenues were up 6.74 percent compared to November 2005. With only December sales tax numbers left for 2006, the city is up 12.03 percent over 2005. Through November, the city had collected $15,735,309 from sales tax. During the same period in 2005 the city had collected $14,045,401. The city is funded almost solely by sales tax revenues.
