    Slaps in the face

Sheriff Wall's non-committal comments regarding his and his undersheriff's POST certifications slaps in the face all of those who have completed this important training. This is mandatory training for all Colorado Sheriffs and Undersheriffs as well as all of his patrol and investigative staff. I disagree, he needs to be in a hurry to get this training.

    Let him do something

If making quotes that are viewed as arrogant after only two days in office is a basis for recalling a publicly elected official, then every politician in the U.S., including our President, is probably in trouble. It seems to me that we need to judge Wall by his actions (and inactions) after he has had a chance to do something. To his credit, he went ahead of time for 10 days of training in early December and last week. These are actions that we can pay attention to. Let's see how he does on being a sheriff, protecting and serving Routt County.

    Brenner not 'neutral'

There is a bit of irony in your article (Brenner steps down, Jan. 10) when Mr. Brenner states he has had to maintain neutrality on issues. The very next paragraph states that he has been an outspoken advocate on many current issues. I would not characterize Brenner's tenure as one of neutrality on issues.

    Thanks for the effort

Ken (Brenner): I disagree with many things you work toward, but I respect you for your effort and thank you for the time given to our city.

    Off on the wrong foot

The new Congress decides that the way to start moving this country toward "recovery" is to take off a day for a football game. How is that 100 hours supposed to work? Good thing we have 2008 to regain a sense of hard work.

    Light up the bathrooms

Musicfest is a great event and it'd be great to keep it in town. Note to organizers: Currently there is one light outside the porta pots. Please put more out for tonight's event so the insides are lit up.

    Shame on School Board

Why such blatant disregard by the School Board for what personnel requested? I see that the board has broken the law by going into secret session against the wishes of everyone involved with these surveys. Good for Pat Gleason for having the guts to stand against them and be willing to do what the people asked for. I hope anyone who voted for the others is now asking themselves how they helped to support a personal vendetta.

    No more good comics

I don't know about The Record comprehensively delineating police activity. I've always appreciated The Record for its entertainment value. With the retirements of Gary Larson & Bill Watterson, the comics sure as heck aren't worth reading.
