Lee Ann Womack
Country vocalist Lee Ann Womack is a tiny woman with one of the most powerful voices I have ever heard. On Tuesday, she belted her songs, including the Grammy-Award winning hit, "I Hope You Dance," to a mix of cowboys and teens wearing backward caps.
But the crowd, including myself, didn't really dance. To be honest, I was so impressed with Womack's voice that I moved away from those few who were dancing to listen.
I'm sure Steamboat is one of the smallest places Womack has ever performed, but she appeared happy to be here.
It is frustrating when top vocalists come to Steamboat, but locals aren't allowed to attend their concerts, so I was appreciative of the chance to see a Grammy-Award winner up close without spending a fortune.
Steamboat Bandstand
I walked into Chelsea's restaurant and was transported from Steamboat Springs to a fabulous dance club in a trendy big city. DJ Also Starring was mixing beats a girl can dance to!
The place was packed, the sweat was dripping and there were cute boys all over the place.
The dance revolution of our late-night scene is under way. We finally have a venue where you don't have to do the hippie sway.
On the flip side, those of us who also dig the house, trance and progressive tracks should come to Chelsea's on Friday nights to accompany DJ Chris Seefelt. And Chelsea's just kicked off Thursday night dance parties, as well. Goodbye Levelz, hello Chelsea's.
I would venture to say the ground there is completely stable, but I was in Tobiano when that earthquake hit Steamboat in September 2005. Keep your feet planted and your tail shakin'.
Big pimpin'
On the way to Mahogany Ridge Brewery and Grill on Saturday night to see Whitewater Ramble, I spotted the band's new RV parked outside. I couldn't help myself, so I walked in to check it out.
It was sweet - and so much nicer than I had imagined. There were etched-glass walls in the spacious bathroom's shower, a large master bedroom (with bad leopard skin-patterned sheets) and fancy wood kitchen cabinets.
Brian Coddington, acoustic guitarist and vocalist for the band, said he would be the official cook on tour.
"I like cooking very rich and delicious food and pasta dishes," he said. "And we will probably put a grill in there because I want to grill some steaks."
