Deadline to apply for EPYCS grants is Friday
The deadline to apply for grants through the El Pomar Youth in Community Service program is Friday.
EPYCS is a Colorado high school program giving state youth the chance to learn more about the operation of a nonprofit and the opportunity to help local nonprofits in need.
Nearly every public and private high school in Routt County has an EPYCS program, and each program has a mission statement targeting specific nonprofits.
Each year, the El Pomar Foundation asks each EPYCS branch to raise $500, which the foundation matches with a $7,500 gift.
The high school students then decide how to divide the $8,000 in grant money among the nonprofits that apply for financial assistance.
Steamboat Springs, South Routt, Hayden and The Lowell Whiteman School have EPYCS programs.
The deadline to raise the $500 is Feb. 23.
Diamond Hitch Parade applications being accepted
The 94th Winter Carnival is Feb. 7 to 11. Applications are being accepted for the Diamond Hitch Parade, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 11. The Diamond Hitch Parade consists of at least four skiers who hold onto the points of a rope tied in the shape of one or more diamonds. The rope may be pulled by animals, people or vehicles through the snow-filled streets of downtown Steamboat Springs. Anyone is welcome to participate. To register, stop by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club offices or call 879-0695, ext. 100.
