Stuart Orzach: Dig deeper
Sunday, February 25, 2007
Your commentary (Wed. 2/21/07) misses the point entirely.
Ken Brenner's ski pass is a red herring.
This is not about ethics!
The group that leveled disingenuous and unsubstantiated charges against Ken has better things to do than go on a petty witch hunt. Besides, this notorious bunch is no ethics "Dream Team."
Something much bigger is unfolding here. Judging by the cast of characters, I would say that development in the West of Steamboat Area, and the future of our airport are part of the story line.
Act Two, by this unlikely ensemble, should reveal more of the plot.
Perhaps the newspaper could look into it more closely, and try not to lose the trail this time.

I see that the aliens who abducted Stuart have returned him to us. Pity.

We have missed you Stuart. It is OK to be an individual of community conscience and character. Please keep it up and please do not go away for such a long time. Your views are needed and welcomed.

Stuart - maybe you should do a little deeper digging yourself - Ken didn't disclose his ski passes , not once but several times and he used his elected position to try to get passes at the golf course - It's about disclosure and ethics - don't they apply to him too? If you are going to lecture and condemn - at least get the facts right - I thought you were smarter than that- fooled again. I speak of community conscience and character - I hope you will too in the future. You blew it on this one.

Red herring is 100% correct. Like worrying out loud about freakin Monica Lewinsky while actually planning to install the most trashy leadership in modern American history. Monica was the means.
Same deal same goal, but on a local scale. Flat out red herring and anybody who says otherwise has a forked tongue and an agenda.
Just like the Monica red herring which has brought us pure trash for "leadership".

I'm not a big fan of Ken's and I hope he is replaced in the upcoming election but not because of ski passes.
He had those ski passes for years before he joined council. They were provided to him for his volunteer work connected to ski racing and were not related to his council service. Get over it.

Dick Cheney had to resign from Halliburton and divest himself of the stock when he was elected.
Same thing.
Get over it.
It's a requirement of serving in a government position. He should have looked into it before he ran for office.

I think its pretty amusing for Stuart to say this...when its YOUR buddy, its a red herring, when it was someone you didn't like (remember Brenner's treatment of Kathy Connell) its a shocking scandal.
The whole affair is rather Nixonian, and its the "liberals" who are covering up now.

Yes, the difference between liberal corruption and conservative corruption is that the conservatives feel guilty about it. The liberals just feel a sense of victory. In both cases, the result is always bad for everybody.
Liberal "guilt" if there is such a thing is based on a set of situational morals. Conservative guilt comes from betrayal of God, and sorrow over profiting from victimization of his children. The only middle ground in this case is contained in the Colorado Revised Statutes which make it UNLAWFUL to accept such gifts and favors while holding public office.
So, where's the DA in all this? Oh, yeah, being recalled. Well, the statute of limitations should be long enough to enable the new DA to act.

Stuart - The charges are not "disingenuous and unsubstantiated". There was a ski pass, which was not disclosed as required by State Statute and by the City of Steamboat Springs Code of Ethics. There was free golf - all these were substantiated by Ken Brenner. What is disingenuous is the failure to disclose.

I aadmire the courage of Cindy Maddox to use her name to stand up to all of Ken's antics. Thank you Cindy!
