— Steamboat Springs will be the focus of a new show premiering on the Weather Channel March 4. Epic Conditions is joint effort of Warren Miller and the Weather Channel. The first episode will focus on Powder Skiing in Steamboat, including the weather patterns that produce the trademark Champagne powder and the dangers that massive amounts of snowfall can create. The episode is set to air at 7 p.m. Mountain Time on Saturday, March 4.

The Hayden School District has raised more than $370,000 to help pay for the expansion of the district's vocational building. The private fundraising is critical to the project. School officials are expected to appear before Routt County commissioners this week, seeking support for an Energy and Mineral Impact grant that will be key to finishing the project, which is expected to cost more than $1 million. The project will be discussed at Wednesday's Hayden School Board meeting.

The Steamboat Springs City Council is set to act tonight on a community housing plan for One Steamboat Place, a 440,000-square-foot, mixed-use development planned for a site adjacent to the ski area's gondola building. Previously, the city has shot down the housing plan for One Steamboat Place. This time developers are proposing to build 18 affordable housing units at nearby Wildhorse Meadows. This would exceed the city's affordable housing requirements. The meeting starts at 4 p.m. in Centennial Hall.

Steamboatpilot.com is hosting a chat this week with Dan Bonner, president of Main Street Steamboat. Bonner will answer questions about the downtown group's plans for a Business Improvement District and discuss other Main Street Steamboat initiatives. Here is what is happening in Steamboat Springs. The Winter Sports Club will host Recreational ski Jumping from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howelsen Hill. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $12. On Wednesday, Yampatika will host a Backcountry Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $40. For more area events, check out Happenings at steamboatpilot.com

In Sports, the Steamboat Springs Sailors have a first-round bye in the state high school boys basketball playoffs. The Sailors finished the season 19-3 and 14-0 in the Western Slope League. Steamboat will face the winner of Wednesday's Montrose versus Summit game. The second-round game will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kelly Meek Gym in Steamboat.

Freshman Genna Bradley attends Steamboat Springs High School but competes in diving for Moffat County High School. Over the weekend, Bradley participated in her first state meet in Fort Collins. She finished 21st.

Here is your first look at weather. The temperature at 6 a.m. was 13 degrees under cloudy skies. We should see snow showers this morning, giving way to afternoon sun. The high today is expected to be around 37 degrees. The weather should clear up Wednesday, when temperatures should reach 40 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
