Montana fugitive nabbed in Hayden

— An accused sexual predator wanted in Montana was arrested without incident in Hayden on Wednesday.

The day after learning the man may have been headed toward Hayden, Hayden Police Chief Ray Birch spotted him in an alley near downtown.

Birch said he arrested the 22-year-old man at about 4:20 p.m. as he walked along Jefferson Avenue.

The man is accused of sexually assaulting a girl in Sanders County, Mont.

"It turned out good," Birch said. "This guy could have done bad things."

Birch said a Tuesday night bulletin issued by the Craig Police Department indicated the man might be headed toward Hayden. Craig police started looking for the fugitive last week after discovering he had been living in temporary housing there for about a month.

About 10 days ago, the man was late paying rent and told his apartment manager he was headed to Hayden.
