Fire damages rooms in Oak Creek home

— A fire that damaged several rooms in an Oak Creek home Tuesday night resulted in no human injuries but killed the family's two cats.

Oak Creek Fire Protection District Chief Chuck Wisecup said firefighters from Oak Creek, Yampa and Steamboat Springs worked arduously to contain a fire that nearly destroyed a home at 101 S. Arthur St.

The fire was reported at about 6 p.m. by a man who saw smoke coming from the home's roof as he drove on Routt County Road 25.

The owners of the home, Dave and Melody Klowser, were not home at the time of the fire, Wisecup said.

The Klowsers purchased the home about three or four months ago, Wisecup said.

He said he did not know what caused the fire. Wisecup said he planned to investigate the home Wednesday with an insurance investigator.

A mechanical room, pantry and two bedrooms were severely damaged by the fire, he said. Firefighters contained the blaze by about 10:15 p.m., he said.

No other homes or buildings were damaged in the fire.
