Topping the news this morning, Steamboat Springs City Council member Ken Brenner has returned a complimentary ski pass after being questioned about it at a council meeting Tuesday night.

Brenner said he received the ski pass for his work as a ski coach and volunteer with the Rocky Mountain Division of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association. He said he has received the pass for years and that it has nothing to do with his service on council. Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. officials confirmed Brenner's statement; nevertheless, he returned the ski pass Wednesday.

During the public comment portion of Tuesday's Steamboat Springs City Council meeting, Bob Maddox questioned Brenner about the ski pass. Maddox not only asked Brenner why the ski pass had not been listed in Brenner's report of gifts and honoraria as a council member, but also stated that it is inappropriate for Brenner to vote on Ski Corp.-related issues while holding such a pass.

A mass e-mail mistakenly sent Thursday morning by Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. staff contained personal information of hundreds of Ski Corp. customers.

The information included names, phone numbers, home addresses and e-mail addresses.

Andy Wirth, vice-president of sales and marketing for Ski Corp, said the e-mail was sent late Thursday morning. Under the heading "Regarding Your Steamboat Vacation," the e-mail thanks customers for their reservations and describes how to contact the ski area's Ski and Snowboard School.

Attached to the e-mail is a spreadsheet containing personal information for 399 customers.

Wirth said they have begun an internal effort to thoroughly review this matter and make sure it does not happen again.

The driver of a semitrailer was uninjured Thursday night after his rig tipped on its side and slid off the road near the Heritage Park neighborhood west of Steamboat Springs.

Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Chad Dunlap said Shedrick Boyd, 40, was driving westbound on U.S. Highway 40 at about 9:15 p.m. when he came around a curve too fast and crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic. His semitrailer tipped onto its side and slid through snow before stopping just short of hitting the fence of a Heritage Park home.

Boyd was cited for improper mountain driving.

In sports, the road to the league title will take the Steamboat Springs boys basketball team into hostile territory tonight.

Still undefeated in the Western Slope League, the Sailors make the 45-minute trip west to play rival Moffat County at 7:30 p.m.
