Kay Weinland: Elections secure

Steamboat Springs Colorado County Clerks are entrusted by our citizens to ensure the honesty and integrity of the election process. We are confident that fair and accurate elections have been held and will continue to be held in our state. As elections administrators, we are dedicated to serving and fulfilling the public trust.
The four (electronic voting) systems that have been utilized in Colorado were purchased in compliance with federal and state certifications and directives. Colorado county clerks currently operate under the most stringent audit and testing regulations in the United States, in a public and transparent process. These elections have been and will continue to be tested and audited within each county to ensure accurate results.
The certification process has undergone changes since the initial purchase of equipment in the spring of 2006, resulting in standards that are difficult to meet by any system currently in existence.
County clerks will evaluate the results of the recertification and work closely with the Legislature and secretary of state to draft solutions and ensure the integrity of the 2008 elections.
