— Agencies stepping up DUI enforcement for holidays

With holiday parties in full swing, the Colorado Department of Transportation, in conjunction with the Colorado State Patrol and 68 other law enforcement agencies, will step up patrols this weekend in hopes of limiting driving under the influence, according to a CDOT press release.

"Office Party Weekend" DUI enforcement will last from 6 p.m. today until 3 a.m. Monday across the state. Colorado law enforcement arrested 475 people for DUI during the same period last year.

Alhough there won't be any sobriety checkpoints in the Steamboat Springs area this weekend, CSP troopers have been scheduled for overtime DUI patrols all month, Sgt. Scott Elliott said.

CDOT will also lead the "Heat Is On!" DUI enforcement period beginning 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, and ending at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008.
