Steamboat Springs Age: 54
Occupation: Paraprofessional, South Routt School District
Place of birth: New York City
Q. When did you move to Routt County and what brought you here?
A. September, 1985. My girlfriend in San Francisco said, "I'm moving back to Colorado," and I said, "Okay, I'm going with you."
Q. What's the biggest risk you've taken recently?
A. Leaving my secure, year-round job as a cook at YVMC to become a paraprofessional.
Q. Describe your morning routine.
A. Wake up at 6:45, shower, make coffee and lunch, get a copy of the Today across the street, have breakfast with my wife and stepdaughter. After they leave, I spend some q-time with the cats, read the paper and walk the three blocks to my job at South Routt Elementary here in Yampa. No set routine on weekends.
Q. Has a book ever changed your life? What was it and why?
A. When I was in ninth grade, I read "The Complete Works of Sherlock Holmes" (not as a school assignment). It was my late father's copy. It opened my eyes to analytical thinking, and I found the look at late Victorian England fascinating. I still pick it up and read some of it from time to time.
Q. What's the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
A. "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts." Albert Einstein.
Q. What three things would you want people to know about you?
A. How to spell my last name correctly, there's no food I won't eat, I'm open minded.
Q. What did you want to be when you grew up?
A. An astronaut.
Q. If you could invite any four people to dinner, who would they be and what would you talk about?
A.Albert Einstein, Katherine Hepburn, Martin Luther King, Jr., Cleopatra. We'd talk about all the other people I could have invited.
Q. Do you collect anything?
A. Rocks. Knives. Memories.
Q. In the Meatloaf song, "I'd do anything for love, but I won't do that," what is that?
A. Lie, among other things.
