Amanda Luchini, a senior at Steamboat Springs High School, was honored as Rotary Student of the Month at the November meeting of the Steamboat Springs Rotary Club.
Luchini, a consistent honor roll student, member of the National Honor Society and academic letter recipient, is also a four-year cheerleading veteran at the high school. Her leadership abilities really came to the fore when her coach retired last spring and she was instrumental in keeping the team together and working to find a new coach.
Luchini, known to her friends as Mandy, has been a choreographer and a dancer in the Steamboat Springs Dance Showcase. She was selected by her peers to direct the 2007 show. Luchini has been a regular contributor to the Periscope school newspaper. She teaches vocation Bible school, has been a Girl Scout for nine years, member of a choir, and she even bakes pies for the community Thanksgiving dinner.
"While Mandy's accomplishments in her academics and activities are incredibly impressive, they are still not what impress me the most about her," said teacher Kelly Erickson. "What truly separates her from her peers, and many other individuals, is the genuine aura that seems to surround her in anything that she does. Mandy treats everyone with respect and is constantly looking out for those around her. This compassion is one of the reasons that she is so incredible in her leadership positions, but it is also the reason that people want to be around her."
Luchini looks forward to studying public relations, marketing and communications in college.
