— Visitors to Steamboat Springs will have a chance to peruse an open artists market this weekend.

The sixth annual Art on the Mountain festival runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Gondola Square, at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area.

The festival will feature a variety of vendors and craftspersons both local and from out of state, Steamboat Ski Area spokesperson Heidi Thomsen said.

"In the past several years, we've seen everything from jewelry to crafts to mirrors. I think at one point we even had some art created with antlers," she said.

Linda Blazek, who has sold her wares at Art on the Mountain for the past two years, said many people who browse through the festival are on there way to other activities on the mountain. Blazek, who moved to Steamboat Springs last fall, sells her handmade vests and jackets made from Pendleton American Indian blankets at art markets around the state.

"It's nice for the variety and the atmosphere there, but it's small compared to a lot of the other ones," Blazek said of the Steamboat event.

Thomsen said the market, which features mostly clothing, jewelry, arts and crafts, is meant to complement the exciting Labor Day weekend atmosphere on the mountain. The Steamboat Ski Area hosts two arts festivals each summer, the other based around the 4th of July weekend.

"This event just adds to that scene," Thomsen said.

Free parking for market-goers is available at the Gondola Square Parking Garage.
