Raul Chavez of Aurora recorded a hole-in-one Aug. 17 at Catamount Ranch and Club. Chavez said he was so amazed he had to take a minute to catch his breath.

— Raul Chavez loves his 6-iron. It was his club of choice during indoor lessons the past couple of winters.

And on Aug. 17 at Catamount Ranch and Club, the 6-iron gave him something every golfer dreams about - a hole-in-one.

Chavez carded his first ace on the 198-yard, par 3, No. 8 at Catamount.

For the Aurora resident, who has been playing golf for 10 years but seriously for only the past two, the shot was something that almost didn't happen.

As Chavez approached the elevated tee on the eighth hole, he worried a hill next to the tee box would impede his shot.

So Chavez teed up a little in front before his playing partner and friend Gary Harvey told him he was five feet in front of the correct tees.

Chavez backed it up, put his tee in the ground and swung with his wife, Luanne, friends Gary and Nancy Harvey, and caddie Noah Wetzel looking on.

"I swung the club and it went straight," Chavez said. "Noah said, 'That's going to be a hole-in-one.' He called it in the air. It bounced once and rolled in straight."

While the other members in the foursome jumped for joy, Chavez stood in disbelief.

"I'm standing there amazed," said Chavez, noting the closest he's been on a par 3 prior to the hole-in-one was 12 feet. "I had to take a minute to catch my breath. I was in awe."

While still relatively green to the game, Chavez said the ace will only spark his interest in golf.

"It's a great feeling," he said. "I was shocked at first. I was in disbelief. When you see it go in it was so natural. It was a fabulous experience.

"I just hope I can get another one."
