Hayden Board of Education petitions deadline Aug. 31

Steamboat Springs — Nominating petitions for people interested in serving on the Hayden School District's Board of Education are available in the district's central office. The deadline to submit completed petitions is Aug. 31. There are two openings this fall on the School Board. Each opening is a four-year term. Candidates must be registered voters in the Director District for which they would represent. Call 276-3864 or stop by the district office at 495 W. Jefferson Ave. in Hayden for more information. Yampa Valley Medical Center is seeking volunteers for the lobby information desk. Shifts are 8 to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. TeensRead cards due to library before school starts

Children and teens ages 11 to 18 must turn in their Bud Werner Memorial Library TeensRead cards before school starts. A completed card signifies the teen read 1,000 pages during the summer. Every participant who turns in a card will receive a $10 gift certificate to his or her choice of Off the Beaten Path Bookstore, The Potter's Wheel, Silver Lining, Quiksilver Boardriders Club or The Click. All completed cards also will be entered in the grand prize drawing Aug. 27 for a $50 gift certificate donated by Wells Fargo Bank. TeenReads cards are available at the library.

Volunteers still needed for Steamboat Triathlon

The Steamboat Triathlon has once again sold out. However, volunteers still are needed. Volunteers can experience first-hand what it's like to race in a triathlon without having to partake in any training. Body markers, timers, course marshals, directional officers, and race line finisher assistants are needed. The triathlon is Aug. 26, and there will be community service credit available for volunteers. Shifts begin at 5:30 a.m. and are between two and three hours long.
