Annie Jeckel: Bears pay price
Advertisement
The recent cruel entrapment of a "nuisance" mother bear (with peaches) and her cubs is another tragic example of just how poorly we are doing in our efforts to live in harmony with the wildlife that surrounds us.
Compliance with city ordinances pertaining to trash containers throughout the city is dismal. It is the bears who pay the ultimate price for our carelessness. It is our responsibility, too, to protect the wildlife with whom we share this beautiful valley. More caring, compassion, compliance and common sense would go a long ways toward preventing these sad encounters.
Please, people, let's do better for the bears.
