Bruce Schiller: Don't like dogs?

Steamboat Springs The Routt County Humane Society (RCHS) had a very successful "Soggy Doggy Washdown" on Aug. 4. More than 100 hundred local families participated by bringing their dog for a bath, and many businesses, including Alpine Bank, Powder Claws and Paws 'n Claws, helped sponsor the event.
The RCHS performs a significant service to our community. Its work is certainly of interest to many local residents. In addition, an event that draws more than 100 local families generally warrants a mention in the Steamboat Today. Therefore, it was disappointing that the Steamboat Today did not consider the event to be newsworthy (and yes, the newspaper knew about the event; there was a half-page ad running in the Today, and it was reported in the "Happenings").
The picture of the setting sun on page 2 of Monday's Steamboat Today was nice, but a picture of the Soggy Doggy Washdown might have better served the community by raising awareness about the RCHS.
Perhaps you just don't like dogs?
