Cliff climber injured after falling at Fish Creek

Steamboat Springs A man who was climbing the south face of the cliff at Fish Creek Falls lost his footing and fell about 100 feet Saturday, Sheriff's Office investigator Ken Klinger said. Klinger said the man was conscious after his fall and was transported to Yampa Valley Medical Center with unknown injuries that were not life threatening.
Alive At 25 driving class open to new drivers
The next Alive At 25 defensive driving class, which is required for all Steamboat Springs High School students who want to park on campus or apply for open campus privileges, is from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at the high school.
The class is open to any interested new drivers who want to get their learner's permit at age 15 1/2. Students can sign up and pay the $30 class fee online at Alive-At-25.org. Call Dennis Hensen at 871-3685 or Deb Funston at 871-3643 for more information.
Seniors who have already taken the Alive At 25 class are required to take a two-hour refresher class, the first of which will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 7. There is no cost for this class, and seniors can sign up by calling 871-3685 and leaving a message with their name, phone number and the date of the class they want to attend.
VA transportation
available for veterans
Transportation to the Grand Junction and Denver VA medical centers is available for veterans who are unable to drive and who have an appointment Monday through Friday at either hospital. This service is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Call the Veterans Affairs Officer of Routt County at 879-5489, or e-mail mcondie@co.routt.co.us to arrange transportation.
Veterans are encouraged to take advantage of the medical services available to them through the VA. Entering the VA medical system requires a copy of your DD 214 and about 20 minutes to fill out a form with the VA officer. The Routt County office is in the Workforce Center in the Sundance at Fish Creek shopping center. The office is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
Comunidad Integrada seeks event volunteers
Comunidad Integrada is looking for volunteers for its Sept. 16 event. The organization also is looking for bilingual volunteers to conduct English language testing and bilingual volunteers to teach Spanish and English. Call 871-4599 for details.
