  • — A 31-year-old man was arrested without incident Wednesday morning after a 12-hour standoff with law enforcement.

The man is accused of assaulting his mother and another man during an argument. He was blocked in by three Routt County Sheriff's Office patrol cars and arrested when he tried to leave the scene, investigators said.

Sheriff's Office Investigator Ken Klinger said Brian Simillion was arrested after the ordeal, which involved eight Sheriff's Office deputies, Sheriff Gary Wall, Undersheriff David Bustos and other officials.

The incident began around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when deputies were called to a home in the 26000 block of Routt County Road 43 on a report of a disturbance, Klinger said.

Simillion's mother and the male, who was at the home with the mother, sustained minor injuries during the assault, he said. Neither needed medical attention, he added.

Klinger said, following the alleged assault, Simillion reportedly left his mother's home for his trailer on the same property.

Officers surrounded Simillion's trailer and kept it under surveillance for several hours, Klinger said.

"It was risky because (Simillion) was known to have weapons, and we didn't know if he had weapons or not," Klinger said.

The episode came to an end when Simillion tried to leave in a Chevrolet Suburban. Sheriff's Office deputies blocked Simillion in so he could not leave, Wall said. Simillion was "taken into custody without incident," Klinger said.

No officers were injured during the incident, Klinger said.

Simillion was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center to be treated for an ankle injury and was then taken to the Routt County Jail, Klinger said. Simillion is facing charges of felony second-degree assault and criminal mischief.

Simillion's bond was set at $10,000. He is scheduled to appear in Routt County Court at 1 p.m. Aug. 7.
