Maggie Bitume: Still a long way to go
Advertisement
As a great fan of baseball and sports in general, I was very disappointed to see there was no mention at all about the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson Day on Sunday, April 15, 2007.
That day was about much more than just two teams playing ball, and that one of the players happened to be African American. It made us look at the separation of races and the predjudiced views we had 60 years ago and that some still have today.
We've come a long way, there is still more work to be done.

Gee Maggie, did you miss all of the network newscasts, all of the games played that day, and all of the major newspapers, did you not know about it 'til it was over? Do you wait to get all of your news from the Pilot? I'm getting tired of hearing the same thing over and over and over, on all channels, in all papers, and on all radio broadcasts, no matter what subject THEY deem newsworthy at the time. Jackie Robinson Day received enough coverage that we (the rest of the world) were aware of the event. I am not trying to take anything away from the great accomplishments of Jackie Robinson, I'm just tired of listening to the MEDIA'S POINT OF VIEW.... CONSTANTLY.

Are you serious? Did you happen to notice all of the players wearing #42 on their backs on April 15 to honor Jackie. Robinson's number is retired and special permission was given by the Commissioner's office to wear that number. Every single major league team had a player and or manger wearing #42. The sunday night baseball game on national TV opened with a ceremony honoring Jackie and his wife. Not only did you not do any worthwhile research or watch a single game on April 15 before you wrote this nonsense, you are clearly NOT a baseball fan
