Vanatta aims high, reaches elite status

Realtor ranked 29th on Prudential list

— Pam Vanatta, co-owner of Prudential Steamboat Realty, was focused on cracking Prudential's list of the top 100 producing Realtors in the nation. But she surpassed her own expectations.

"My goal was to be top 50, but I ended up 29th, which really surprised me," Vanatta said. She and her colleagues recently returned from Prudential's national convention in San Diego.

Vanatta said the highlights of the national convention always include the chance to expose her company's rising stars to the empowering atmosphere of the convention, along with the opportunity for her and partner Cam Boyd to network with other top real estate executives from across the country.

"We found out our market is so much stronger than the traditional markets," Vanatta said. "We met with other owners, and most were down 20 percent last year. We were up 20 percent."

Some of the perennial denizens of the top echelons weren't in their familiar spot on the ranking list this year because of the softening in the traditional markets, she added.

Vanatta always looks forward to meeting her counterparts from Prudential Utah, whose strongest brokers are always in the Park City ski market. Park City's overall market is significantly larger than Steamboat's, and Vanatta has gained a sense of what's in store for Steamboat from her colleagues in Utah.

"We're just on the edge of taking off," Vanatta said. She has been studying the local market since 1986.

Vanatta said it's rewarding to compete against star brokers from power markets.

"I was up against people from Manhattan," she said.

Many of the top Prudential brokers nationally have been able to grow their personal business volume by employing licensed assistants, Vanatta said, and reaching the top 30 nationally wasn't attainable without the hard work of her licensed assistants, Heidi Flint and Kelly Silva.

"They are an immense help to me," she said.

Exposing young brokers at Prudential Steamboat to the goal-setting that takes place at the national convention is energizing, Vanatta said.

"They can set their goals for next year and try to get to the next level," she said. "We have some young superstars who, in time, are going to get right to where I am. They're going to keep climbing the ladder like I did."

Can Vanatta top her 2006 production?

"My goal next year will be top 10," she said.
