It was a funny smell

The "Rainboat Connection: What's That Smell?" presented by Ski Town Productions, was the funniest show I have seen in this town. From the opening video of Kermit the Frog singing the "The Rainboat Connection" with Andy Pratt on guitar, to Kelly Anzalone's character playing with his (juggling) balls, the cast really got into character with only a handful of smiles and uncontrollable giggles on stage.

From my front row seat, I could smell nothing but hilarious, dark, local humor.

The whole package was perfect - with the live band, original music, those fabulous Aspen trees and the Steamboat Springs City Council on a leash.

Writer Todd Danielson deserves some serious props. I have followed Ski Town Productions since they put on "24 in 24." Each succeeding production has grown immensely in plot advancement, character development and multimedia incorporation.

I believe almost every show this weekend was sold out and Steamboat Springs Mountain Theatre had to actually turn people away. I feel bad for those people.

I know I am going to have to buy the DVD of the show because this is like one of those movies that you just want to watch over and over again.

Spring fever

The Howelsen Ice Arena was packed Saturday night for the Spring Fever Ice Show, put on by the Steamboat Springs Figure Skating Club. Every spectator got to witness the entire spectrum of ice skaters from 5-year-old soloists to college synchronized skating teams, to 11-time national competitor Braden Overett. Brittany Bowlen performed her solo with four hula-hoops! One precious little skater wore a Tina Turner wig as she skated a solo to "Proud Mary."

Ice skating has always looked to me like one of the hardest sports to learn. The mixture of balance, movement and an unforgiving icy floor can be intimidating. The people who performed in this ice show skated with confidence and grace, and I just hope Steamboat residents appreciate how lucky we are to be able to both learn this skill and watch these athletes perform.
