— The Steamboat Springs track and field teams both placed in the top 15 on Saturday at the Demon Invitational in Glenwood Springs.

Even without a full contingent of athletes because of ACT testing, the Sailors boys placed fourth and the girls placed 12th.

Let by Junior Lizzie Stoll - who picked up her third win of the year in the discus - the girls team finished ahead of more than 10 other teams.

On the boys side, Steamboat was led by Westin Cofer and Matt Hill, who both won their events Saturday. Cofer won the discus - an event he's already pre-qualified for state - and Hill won the 800 meter dash. Hill already has pre-qualified for the 1,600-meter dash

Others placing for the boys included: Tyler Hutson (fourth in the 400-meter and 800-meter dashes), Hill (first in the 800-meter dash), Darren Burke (third in the 110-meter hurdles) Cofer (first in the discus, third in the shot put) and Colby Kostur (fifth in the triple jump). Steamboat also finished third in the 4x400 meter relay.

With the season entering the halfway point, Steamboat's schedule is loaded with meets the next month.

The Sailors travel to Rifle on Friday and Mullen on Saturday. The regional track meet takes place on May 11 and 12 in Grand Junction. The state meet takes place the following weekend.
