A patron passes through the lobby entrance area of the Yampa Valley Medical Center on Friday afternoon. The hospital lobby is scheduled to undergo a significant facelift and reorganization in the coming weeks.
Steamboat Springs Patients and visitors at Yampa Valley Medical Center will notice several changes in the coming weeks.
A remodel of the main lobby begins Monday at YVMC. The hospital will not close, and all other entrances will be open during construction.
The remodel is expected to last at least two weeks and will address several needs YVMC administrators have identified as needing to be addressed.
"The main reason we are doing this is to increase privacy and make the whole registration process better for our patients," YVMC spokeswoman Christine McKelvie said.
The main lobby area is where patients register, settle accounts and wait for appointments. The goal of the remodel is to make the process less visible for those walking through the halls and also for those waiting for appointments.
"We also are making a new financial guidance area," McKelvie said. "We currently don't have a nice, private area."
YVMC offers financial guidance for patients unable to settle bills up front, so a secluded area to meet with patients was necessary, she added.
"We are excited about the changes," McKelvie said.
Patients and visitors will be detoured through other areas of the hospital via different entrances and halls. Patients with scheduled appointments at YVMC either have received or will receive a phone call about arriving earlier to register and get directions as to where to go.
Hospital staff and volunteers will direct patients and visitors during the remodel.
